    Fire & Rope Making School Presentation

    In this 1 hour presentation, students learn the ancient arts of making fire with sticks and making rope with natural materials. These are basic skills used by native people the world over.

    Fire by friction involves various forms of rubbing sticks together which makes heat sufficient to produce a coal, which is then used to light the fire. Topics include safe fire handling, wood selection, tinder bundles, fire tending and the process itself of making the coal with sticks.

    Rope making involves processing natural materials into useable form and then making cordage. Local plants and trees that are good for making rope will be covered, along with the simple technique of rope-making.

    This presentation is hands-on and engaging for students and teachers alike. There is something ancient about watching fire burst into flames with nothing but sticks. Kids will learn practical skills that they can use on their own.

    Wildlife & Ecology School Presentation

    This 1 hour presentation helps children connect with the natural world in their backyard and local woods by helping them understand what is going on. Wildlife abounds, even in urban places, and understanding the patterns, signs and behavior of these animals brings the natural world to life for children.

    Topics include: Animal behavior, Natural history, Skull and Fur Identification, Animal Movement Patterns and Wildlife Tracking.

    An interactive nature museum that is brought in along with the presentation makes the learning concrete and tactile.

    The presentation can also include hands-on learning about what animals are in the schoolyard. Kids will go on a walk around the property, in search of track and sign and learn hands on what the animals are doing right under their nose.
